点评:Church of St. John was initially called the church of St. Trinity and is located in one of the most important city squares. In the middle of the 15th century, the church accepted the fraternity of St. John, and after that the church was called the church of St. John.
This venerable 14th-century lump of stone is famous for the balustrade staircase on the street-facing side, said to be the work of the famous Šibenik builder Ivan Pribislavić. Sprouting from the upper part of the balustrade are a series of angels’ heads in relief form, while a severely eroded lion stands guard at the bottom.
The church’s four-storey belfry boasts the town’s oldest mechanical clock, the dial has Roman numerals and a single (hour) hand, which was built into it after being brought from Drniš during the Cretan War. The dome of the bell-tower was removed in 1862 after a strong earthquake.
At the foot of the bell tower there is a renaissance window, the work of Niccolò di Giovanni Fiorentino, and above the window is a relief of a lamb, under which there is an angel with open wings, a masterpiece of Dalmatian Renaissance.
The church was closed during our visit.
