关西瀑布的点评
点评：Arguably Laos’s most popular place to visit, the waterfalls lie within a larger protected park area with swimming ponds of clear blue water, hiking trails, a bear sanctuary, and dining. Proximity: just about an hour from Luang Prabang on mildly bumpy roads. The park is designed for throngs of tourists—plenty of food and drink at entry points, electric carts that shuttle people to/from the base of the falls, and ample parking for tour vans/buses. So with that said, come early; everyone says that for good reason! The crowds can be no joke.
Tickets to the falls and park cost just over a USD, including a shuttle if desired (or can walk the path yourself). You have two options upon arrival at the falls: taking photos and enjoying the base, or climbing the 500+ steps to a lookout point at the top. While I didn’t undertake the latter, views are apparently (and understandably) amazing at the pinnacle. But even below, the diverse patterns of gushing water against the rocks leading to spotless blue waterholes at the bottom are a sight to behold.
Saw some trash on the ground, albeit scarce—QUIT THE LITTERING. Otherwise, the grounds are well-maintained. Wheelchair users will be able to successfully navigate the main trail to the falls (the one used by the electric buggies), but the other paths will present infeasible challenges (e.g. thick tree roots, steps, rocks). Thankfully, since I can’t walk far without getting sore, there are a multitude of benches and stumps on which to sit and rest along the secondary, more jungly path.
