点评:This was our first time stopping by this farmer's market, and it turned out to be such a fun experience. Most of the vendors are set up indoors, which makes it feel more like a lively marketplace than just a traditional outdoor market. There are restaurants, seafood counters, bakeries, a smoked fish shop, creperies--you name it. Most importantly, free and clean public bathrooms!
Since it's already mid-September, the stalls were filled with seasonal produce: piles of apples, pears, baskets of corn, plenty of tomatoes, and still some sweet peaches. Even though I don't speak French, I could read that most of the products were local, either from Quebec or Ontario. We sampled some sweet corn and ground cherries. We also came across oysters from Prince Edward Island, which made me think how nice it would be to visit there someday and try them right at the source.
The market itself was buzzing with energy. You hear people chatting in French--often Quebecois French, which adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel so rooted in the local culture. Most vendors take credit cards, but a few still prefer cash, so it's worth carrying some just in case. I noticed that many fruits were sold by the bucket or pint, though some people asked to buy half portions, and that seemed perfectly fine too.
Besides food, the market had plenty of flowers and fresh herbs, adding splashes of color everywhere you looked. We even wandered into a couple of plant shops; one of them carried rare and exotic plants, which I loved browsing through. lt was a vibrant and colorful way to spend an hour or two, exploring, tasting, and soaking in the atmosphere. Don't forget to stop by the unofficial Little Saigon nearby.
