点评：It's a unique chance to experience the very place where the American nation and young country were born. The founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English colony in America, in Virginia in 1607—13 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts—initiated a series of cultural interactions that helped shape the nation and the world. The polity, language, customs, beliefs, and aspirations of these early Virginians are all part of the legacy of the United States today.
Our journey began with a viewing of a documentary about the Jamestown settlement, the gripping film "1607: A Nation Takes Root. The film traces the evolution of the Virginia Company, which sponsored the Jamestown colony, explores the relationship between English colonists and the Powhatan Indians, and tells the story of the arrival of the first documented Africans in 1619. The film shown daily every 30 minutes during the museum working hours. After exploring the well-presented interactive museum, we head outside and follow the path to the huts where the first pilgrims settled. How fascinating! Everyday life, utensils, beds, animal fur, and an earthen floor—you have to duck to enter.
Then we run to the water (May is hot!) and visit replicas of the first 3 ships to land on this shore in 1607, carrying first English "illegal immigrants". We descend into the hold, explore the cabins and listen to stories from the ship's sailors dressed in period clothing. Our last stop is nearby - James Fort - this is recreation of Virginia Company of London's 1610-14 military outpost. A stunning and unforgettable historical tour. Did I really see this?
