Great park, but concerning animal care/exhibits.
Hidden Pond Nature Center的点评
点评：The park is beautiful, with excellent walking trails and scenic views. However, the nature center leaves much to be desired. Many of the animals appear visibly unwell and seem to be housed in inadequate conditions. As someone with years of experience keeping reptiles, these enclosures do not appear appropriate. Several of the turtles show signs consistent with metabolic bone disease (calcium deficiency).
It’s disappointing that a publicly funded facility operates at this standard, particularly since it is not a roadside zoo. Given its role in public education, the condition of the animals is especially concerning. The Fairfax County Park Authority should prioritize improving these conditions and ensuring the animals receive proper husbandry and veterinary care ASAP.
