点评:I visited the Railway Station built in 1903 which is now the Coastal Railway Museum. The museum told the story of the Newfoundland Railway and the coastal steamers that served the isolated communities of the island. They had small decals of railway tracks on the floor. If you followed the tracks, you would get to see all of the exhibits.
They had mock-ups of the various carriages on a train. A sleeper had seats during the daytime. At night, the upper berth would fold down. (I used this type of sleeper in 1986 when I traveled across Canada.) Meals were prepared in the Galley. Trains also had a mail car, with postal service employees. I spent over two hours enjoying the exhibits and watching a few short videos. They also had a model railway.
Railways ran in Newfoundland until 1988. Buses using the Trans-Canada Highway were quicker and the railway ceased operations in 1988. Part of the former railway yards is now Railway Park across the street. Engine #906 is a diesel-electric and worked in Newfoundland from 1953 until 1988. The second car is a mail car from 1952. The last car is a coach car from the 1950s that served as a Visitor Information Centre from 1989 until 2003.
