点评:I have spent many a Saturday night attending shows at the Keller and recently noticed that I have never had a great experience. Specifically never had that magic theatre moment when you are transported somewhere else and mesmerized. So I thought I would take a moment and note why. First the venue is laid out wrong for live theater. The house feels too wide, balcony too far back from the stage, and the odd reflective wood boarder pulls focus every time a light gets too close. The sound system is lacking the finesse needed for dialog and much of the story is lost to the echo chamber that is this auditorium. Lastly I think that Portland audience are just not very good. From late comers being escorted to their seats halfway through the opening number, the worlds loudest plastic wrapped cookies being sold in the lobby, or the light that fills the auditorium every time someone gets up to use the restroom, there are just too many distractions. In the latest show we saw there you could see the actors notice people fleeing out the back door before the curtain call just to beat traffic. I think lastly shows at the Keller are just overpriced, I recently took a trip to NYC for a week, saw 12 Broadway shows. I paid $250 a flight (round trip) and paid on average $65 a show at the box office. I have paid more than that to see lesser productions at a his venue. We are not a small town full of people that have never see world class art, we can and should do better.
