点评：We visited Drakenstein Lion Park on a sunny Sunday afternoon and really enjoyed the experience. The grounds are very well maintained, and I thought the entry price was fair considering what you get to see.
There were plenty of lions, all looking healthy and relaxed in their enclosures. Each has a backstory — many were rescued from circuses or situations of abuse — and it’s great to know they’re now being properly cared for, even though they’ll never be released into the wild. There was also a Bengal tiger enjoying a good sunbathe during our visit, which was an unexpected bonus.
What really stood out is that there’s no cub interaction or petting — Drakenstein has taken a clear ethical stance on animal treatment, and it’s something I really respect. A young lady was walking around answering questions and offering info, which added a nice personal touch.
The space is family-friendly, with picnic spots and some playground equipment for kids, and the scenery around the park is stunning. The only thing I’d flag is that mobility access might be tricky — there are a few steep staircases to navigate, especially going up to the info centre and down to the enclosures.
All in all, if you're looking to see lions up close in a space that prioritises their welfare over gimmicks, this is a great option.
