Park, pay, play, picnic, plus perambulate paths
Irchester Country Park的点评
点评：Whilst in Northamptonshire visiting my Partner’s family, we joined my Partner’s Daughter, my Partner’s Son and his Partner, and all the younger grandchildren (4 in total), at this parkland and play area. The park is located two miles south-east of the centre of Wellingborough, close to the village of Little Irchester, nestled in the Nene Valley. The best route here from the east is via the centre of Irchester taking the B570, or from the west take the A509 south past Little Irchester and then the B570.
My Partner’s families often visit this free-to-enter park, and pay the reasonable single (non-time-limited) £3.50 charge for pay-and-display parking. In addition to the play areas, playing field and meadows, there are really good cinder-paved woodland trails plus dirt tracks created as shortcuts. There are opportunities for picnicking, which we took advantage of.
Accessible toilets are provided, also a café with outside seating, and a Visitor Information Centre. There is also free access to the ‘Ironstone Railway Museum’ and a walk to and along ‘The Cally Banks’ (part of a nature reserve managed by the local Wildlife Trust). A business operating high ropes for the more adventurous folk is popular.
So, there is plenty here for families: the woodland walks are really pleasant providing shade in sunny weather (as it mostly was today), and there are various wooden structures dotted around for kids to explore and climb up, and also into.
This park is quite popular and it was moderately busy today (being a Saturday). Various small businesses had set-up to sell drinks and takeaway items; whether they have permission or are regulated remains a question. We had a coffee in the ‘official’ café and it was really very good.
