点评：Gorgeous home and gardens! The land was initially purchased by James Boyd (the novelist's grandfather) to preserve the trees from being deforested. He named the property Weymouth because it reminded him of Weymouth, England. After WWI, his estate was passed to his grandson, James Boyd (the novelist), who bought neighboring tracts of land and expanded the property from 765 acres to 1,575 acres.
The Boyds made the property open to the public as a natural park. In 1963, they deeded 400 acres to the state of NC to establish NC's first state park. An additional 153 was added in 1977. After their death, the property was given to the local community college. The Friends of Weymouth purchased the home and surrounding 26 acres in 1979 and established a cultural center. The property is now a venue for writers, artists, and weddings.
We visited the Weymouth Center for a wedding. The ceremony took place in the lower garden, and the reception was in the upper garden. The bridesmaids prepared for the wedding ceremony in the main home while the groomsmen readied in the carriage house.
