点评:I would give this tour a 6* if I could. It has an excellent blend of human & geological history which has something for everyone. The two friendly guides who deal with separate parts really know their stuff & were more than happy to answer various questions. You can see the passion the guides have, reinforced by the fact sone spend much of the off-season digging parts of the mine for further exploration.
My other half who wasn't able to go underground because we had our dog with us instead enjoyed the alternative gold panning activity, and is chuffed with her museum certificate having found some gold flakes.
Although £25 for the full tour may sound expensive on the face of it, I feel that it is excellent value for what you get. IMPORTANT POINT: their online booking system doesn't show availability for the same day you're viewing, so don't make the mistake of falsely assuming they're closed or fully booked for the rest of the day (phone the museum if in doubt).
I'm annoyed with myself that I passed the sign on the M74 (well, A74(M) to be pedantic) so many times before actually going. This is in large part because I'm a non-driver, although only now do I realise that Wanlockhead has a bus service from Abington (where the Glasgow-Dumfries bus stops). Thankfully the museum has been open for more than 50 seasons, & I can only recommend that others make the relatively short detour detour to support it for another half century.
