Gritty Neighborhood that was the Birthplace of Reggae. Great Tour with Sophia

点评：While in Kingston, we visited the Trench Town Culture Yard which is a place that all fans of Bob Marley or Reggae Music should experience. It is where a young Bob and Rita Marley lived in a single room of the U block in the Government Yards. The Culture Yard has several displays and artifacts to see including an original guitar of Marleys and his VW van that he drove. It costs $20/person to visit and included a guided tour that was of marginal quality. However, for $40, we called the phone number on the website and arranged a guided walking tour of the Trench Town neighborhood beyond the Culture Yard. This was with Sophia from InnerCity Tours, and this tour made the whole experience in Trench Town so much more memorable. Sophia grew up in the neighborhood and remarkably her father was one of the original members of the famous early ska band The Maytals. She provided a great tour lasting about 45 minutes telling us so much about the history of the neighborhood as we walked the gritty streets with her safely guiding us along. This was realistically probably the only way we could have walked around the neighborhood and not been out of place. We stopped by Bob Marley's childhood home and also stopped for a cold Red Stripe at a local dive that was enjoyed on the walk. It was a very authentic experience and am so glad we did this along with the Culture Yard after touring the Bob Marley Museum and Tuff Gong Studio earlier in the day. I feel like we got the full Bob Marley immersion that day.
