点评:Giving it a very good for the size and history, but as a set piece, more of a 'good' - and not particularly welcoming - you are one of a huge number that pass through on any given day. First things that grabs you is the (pretty horrid) green carpet covering the large entry hall. Am assuming (?) that's historically accurate or why on earth would they pick it. There are a couple of impressive historic rooms on the main floor, though in many cases it does not feel as opulent or 'special' as one might expect. Later generations especially had tons of money (Morton's Salt), but the Lodge was used as a summer home, and you feel his main attention was elsewhere despite the impressive, if somewhat haphazard, expansion of the structure. Perhaps my viewing was clouded by the fact this day hosted lots of families with children (running) and what I am guessing was a quilt display with them draped copiously around the rooms. Worth seeing, but I'd adjust your expectations: this is not 'gilded age' even though large and impressive (primarily because of that). Nice collection of carriages, etc., though again unruly and/or just bored & whiny kids didn't help.
