点评:I spent the afternoon at The Rooms, an excellent museum and art gallery. The Rooms gets its name (and shape) from the rooms fishermen used for various aspects of their trade.
Did you know that Newfoundland and Labrador were a separate colony before they joined Canada as the 10th province in 1949? An exhibit celebrates the 75th anniversary of Confederation. In 1948, the people voted to join Canada. You can see some of the campaign posters. In 1892 much of St. John's was destroyed by a fire. The fire was so strong that it fused plates.
In the art gallery, there were several interesting exhibits. I loved the sculpture by Billy Gauthier titled "The Earth, Our Mother". It was made in 2023 from whalebone. There was also a gallery devoted to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. It showed the "Faces of Valour".
They even had part of an iceberg you could touch. There is a lot to see at this museum. Plan to spend at least two hours here, probably more.
