Free entry to amazing art in a great setting

点评：Had a great visit to The Lowry while on a weekend in Manchester.
As a child I loved LS Lowry’s paintings, and seeing them for real they turn out to be even more interesting and beautiful - an amazingly quirky mix of lively and sad, colourful and drab, simple and complex.
Truly great art - very special to Manchester - not to be missed.
The 6-minute 360-immersive experience gave a brilliant intro. And the work in the three gallery rooms was more varied than I’d expected - not just oil paintings of factories, but seascapes and hill-scenes, drawings and portraits.
The captions and other info are just right, the staff were very warmly welcoming, and the whole visit was FREE - thank you, Salford Council.
The Lowry is an impressive modern building on a wide canal basin, and we had good cake and coffee in its big glass-fronted foyer.
Afterwards we did some shopping in the nearby mall, ate lunch in The Alchemist bar on the waterfront, and had a look in the Imperial War Museum North - another free museum in a stunning new building.
The tram from Manchester city centre to Salford was quick, easy & comfortable. From the Imperial War Museum tram-stop, the walk to The Lowry took 10 mins over a footbridge with great views across the canal to Media City.
