A BIG Must Do When In Coffs Harbour

点评：We were leaving Dorrigo and heading to Coffs Harbour for a two-night stay. It’s a crime not to visit The Big Banana Fun Park, if you’re visiting Coffs Harbour or simply driving through Coffs Harbour – you “have to” stop there and at least take a photo in front of The Big Banana. Afterall, it’s The Big Banana that put Coffs Harbour on the map… in my opinion. Entry is free to The Big Banana Fun Park with plenty of free parking available, it’s what you want to do there, that can be pricey. My girls haven’t been to Coffs Harbour and yes, they had their photo taken in front of The Big Banana. We already had our day planned and it’s only a short visit and agreed to do the ‘Theatre and Plantation Tour’, which is a self-guided stroll through the lower half of Banana Planation followed by an informative presentation in the packing shed. It’s a short stroll with information plaques along the way and upon entering the shed, there is an interactive display – two bunches of bananas, one weighing 25kgs and the other 50kgs, enclosed in a glass cage. There’s a pulley attached to the bananas where you can have a go to see if you are capable of lifting the bananas. It gives you a perspective how hard the work is on a banana plantation and I can assure you, as a male, I tried my hardest to pull the 50kgs of bananas, which I wasn’t capable. The 25kgs was doable but I had to put a lot of effort into it – it was not an easy task. Then we watched the presentation – old footage during the 1960s, which gives you a better understanding and appreciation, how hard the work is but the workers back then made the work look quite easy and always with a smile on their faces. Makes you appreciate the bananas more when you buy them next. I highly recommend to take part in this activity – very informative and interesting. We also bought 2 x 4D Ride Simulator – it’s approximate six minutes each – waiting in the line is longer because this activity is quite popular. The person in front of the line gets to choose which simulator they want to watch, if you don’t want to see it, you simply let others go through. If that’s the case, it works out well for you, because this will make you in front of the line and you can tell the staff your choice of simulator to watch. We watched ‘Dino Safari 2’ and ‘Canyon Coaster Trailer’ and it was fun but the best out of the two is definitely Canyon Coaster Trailer, even the staff agreed with me. The Big Banana Fun Park is opened seven days a week, from 9am to 5pm. I highly recommend to plan your day before you get there. You can save money if you know what attractions you want to see or do, as they provide combo deals, which works out cheaper. The Big Banana Fun Park also has a Café, Gift Shop, Candy Kitchen (no ticket required - candy making demonstrations from 10am – 2pm, ask staff when entering, when will the next candy making demo start, so you won’t waste time waiting). The staff are super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend for first-timers, there are a variety of family friendly activities you can take part in and make it a full day, if you wish. I can’t see myself going to Coffs Harbour again, it was simply to visit an Australian “BIG” icon and what we did there was fun. However… if we happen to drive through Coffs Harbour in the future, we will definitely drop by again and have the café experience.
