点评:Friday 6th February we visted Nelson's Dockyard, it was one of the itinerary stops on our Tour of highlights of Antigua.
One of the main features in the Dockyard yard is this museum. It is housed in a two-storey Victorian building with a covered veranda almost all the way around it.
The house was built 1855 and was originally used as the Naval Officer's and Clerks' house, as per the sign outside. The building opened as a Museum in 1977 following major refurbishment in the 1970s.
The Museum has artifacts, models, furniture, maps, Naval and Military historic items and so much more.
It also houses personal items and memorabilia belonging to Horatio Nelson most notably his telescope and other items used by Nelson during his time stationed in Antigua.
At the entrance to the Museum there is a sign which explains it's layout:- "On the Ground Floor you can leam about the History and Development of this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard and the People who worked here.
Upstairs the Military History of English Harbour is told. You can also learn more about Nelson's stay in the Dockyard."
On it's own the Museum is interesting but would not be worth the effort if it was the only place visited. However, it combines with the other features to make a visit to the historic Dockyard a worthwhile adventure.
