点评:The seven wells are associated with the ancient legend of King Ravana, dating back thousands of years. According to local tradition, Ravana either created or discovered these springs. Each well contains hot water at a slightly different temperature, making them a unique natural attraction. While they may not officially be recognized as a wonder of the world, they certainly feel like one.
Despite collecting an entrance fee, very little effort appears to have been made to properly maintain the site. The wells themselves contain muck, coins, and other debris that have been thrown in. The surrounding area is also poorly maintained and, in many places, quite filthy. It is genuinely sad to see a place with such historical, cultural, and natural significance left in this condition.
Another disappointing aspect is the treatment of the site's historical and religious heritage. Until roughly two decades ago, there was a prominent Lord Shiva temple at the location, reflecting the tradition that King Ravana was one of Lord Shiva's greatest devotees. The temple has since been relocated to a small corner of the property, giving the impression that an important part of the site's history has been diminished or pushed aside.
For all the political issues that have affected the region over the decades it is just very sad to see that this has happened. It is unfortunate to see such a remarkable and historically important place neglected in this way. With proper preservation, Kanniya Hot Springs could be one of Sri Lanka's most extraordinary attractions.
