点评:We hadn't planned to visit Colditz on our trip, but saw signs on our way into Leipzig, and it was a 'must see' at that point. We have a very old board game that was my husbands grandfathers, that we have played many times and wanted to see the place for real.
For good parking, get there early, there is very limied parking on site, but there are other options in the town if there is nothing left.
The long walk in gives you an idea of the scale of the place, and you are given a great welcome when you get there.
We were early for our pre-paid guided tour, but this gave us access to the main part of the castle, and the VR tour that goes with it. It's superb, with so much to get involved with, plus a chance to find your escape kit (like the game), but also a deeper history to the castle, when it was a hospital and royal residence.
The best part, however, is the guided tour. You get taken into areas where the general public are not allowed, with a guide who lives and breathes the history of the place. The stories, anecdotes and wonderful tales they tell bring the place to life, and it becomes a lived experienct, not just viewed.
If you are in the area, this becomes a MUST SEE, and I will go back.
