点评:The Church House Inn at Harberton is a Devon "long house" with a wonderful atmosphere and an excellent place to drop in for a drink. However, I have lived in Devon for over 25 years and last night's meal represents our very worst local dining experience in all that time. This evaluation is based on quality, quantity and cost. Mains, £20 plus: A ham stew proved inedible, it was comprised essentially of fat strips and fat globules. Roast chicken was two not-quite-cooked pathetically small pieces of chicken on the bone, for one person a chicken wing and a tiny drumstrick. First courses were over £11 each, This meant that padron peppers were over £1 for each pepper. And the smoked mackerel, well a new take on "smoked mackerel". One person got the fully furnished head and the tail, and another the mid section of a small fish. Not cured, not filleted and had it ever been truly smoked, there was no evidence? The main dishes were largely unaccompanied with sides being an additional £5 each for a small dish of average chips or greens. The mains menu was very restricted, a choice from four items - chicken, ham stew, fish, or mushrooms on toast. For the quality and quantity the menu was ridiculously expensive. The service was good, the cooking does not even merit the description of "disappointing". If you have more money than sense (or is that taste) then a great place to visit.
