Fantastic Sing Along Experience

点评：We arrived in Oslo on December 22 and tried to get into the cathedral around 3:30 but were told that the cathedral was closing early. This was for a sing along event happening at 5:00 pm which we decided to come back for. In other European cities we've been to around Christmas they have had evensong and concerts but very few have been in attendance. At the Oslo Cathedral you needed tickets to attend this event, they were free and when we bought ours there were only 3 left. The church pews were divided into sections for singing styles - bass, soprano, alto and tenor. They had a small orchestra and a very professional conductor. We really enjoyed this hour long concert where the audience performed and there were some obvious professionals which provided a few performances as well. We even got to hear the organ get played. This added to our Christmas experience in Oslo for sure!
The cathedral itself is starting to show its age with paint peeling on both the ceiling and pews. There are some interesting and bright murals here. This all adds to the character of the cathedral with its daunting appearance from the outside and a warm interior. We spent a little over an hour here due to the concert but would say spending 15 minutes here would typically be more than enough. Check the hours before you go because they are limited and you can check out their website to see upcoming events like the sing along we attended.
The Cathedral is on Karl Johan's Gate and is a short walk from the Norwegian Parliament and the Oslo Central Station.
