An unwanted ‘outdoor’ cinema experience

点评：The Astor was a Melbourne landmark but it’s now fading fast and it would be a shame to see it go.
I have no intention of returning there after my own experience tonight. At the screening I went to, another patron told the staff before the film started that the cinema was very cold. Nothing was done and we all endured a film of nearly three hours in FREEZING conditions. Based on my conversation with an employee after the screening, they seemed to have relied on an incorrect temperature display for the heating located in another room and on another floor. If they had bothered to walk into the cinema, they would have noticed that there was a problem and maybe would have tried to resolve it. I noticed several people leave the cinema during the film who did not return.
I also must point out the unethical practice the cinema engages in whereby they apply a credit card surcharge to transactions using one of their own gift cards. This greedy practice has no justification at all. It is a deceptive thing to do to your own customers given that you are NOT recovering fees imposed by any credit card company - it’s your own gift card you are applying the charge to! Maybe they assume that nobody will notice this sneaky and unjustifiable extra charge…I certainly did.
It’s quite odd that the focus here seems to be on extracting a few extra dollars from customers instead of providing a satisfactory cinema experience.
Luckily Melbourne still has many other options for cinema goers.
