点评:A volunteer at Morrab Library urged us to try his favorite pub, a backstreet hole in the wall near the train station, whose owner would decide on the spot if he liked or didn't like us and make it unmistakably clear. Some reviews here attest to this with a slew of poors complaining of the unfriendly barkeep. But we loved the Lamp and Whistle and its owner Miguel Granell who moved to Penzance from London 15 years ago and created the neighborly hangout from scratch. The selection of craft beers is as huge as the space is tiny, maybe enough room for a dozen people to turn around in. Granell poured us a dark Czech lager made with roasted malt and whole-cone Saaz hops under the Budweiser label, on tap. An interesting man to talk to and friendly local regulars -- just what were were looking for.
