WONDERFUL DAY AT GREAT CHALFIELD MANOR

点评：Thursday 19 September 2024, My husband and I decided to visit Great Chalfield Manor and Garden under the care of the National Trust.
We drove down to the village of Broughton Gifford in Wiltshire. My husband and I arrived and parked our car, and then we strolled to this wonderful mellow stone manor. We took the guided tour and wandered through really atmospheric rooms. At the heart of the house lies the Hall, flanked by unusually symmetrical gable cross wings and oriel windows.
Great Chalford Manor has been used for many films and television shows, including The Other Boleyn Girl, Tess of the D’Urbervilles and Wolf Hall. It was also used as the home of Thomas Cromwell. Outside you can spot soldiers, griffons and a monkey carved into the rooftops.
Afterwards, My husband and I strolled through the romantic Arts and Crafts Garden with its orchard, terraces, topiary houses, gazebo, lily pond and spring-fed fishpond. We took lots of photographs as there are many beautiful views to be found round every corner. I found inspiration here as I wrote two poems called ‘A Good Match’ and ‘Devine Gifts’.
We had refreshments in the stable barn, where you could help yourself to tea, coffee and various other beverages and biscuits for the bargain price of four pounds. We sat here for an hour and read ‘Country Life’ magazines. We also went to say ‘Hello’ to the horses in the stables who were called Scully and Mr Pink, they were Norfolk Cob horses.
We then went back into this lovely garden and found a bench where we sat and sunbathed in the hot sun until the manor closed for the day at 5.00 pm.
