Sky, Slopes and the Kilburn White Horse: A Walk Worth Taking

点评：I ended up really enjoying the walk around the Kilburn White Horse, even more than I expected. We parked right at the top of Sutton Bank, which already feels like you’re stepping out onto some giant balcony. The view hits you fast. And then, almost immediately, you wander past the gliders drifting over the edge of the hill. There’s something oddly calming about watching them take off… quiet but not silent, if that makes sense. You sort of feel the whole place catch the wind.
Up on the ridge the airfield sits wide and open, like it’s been peeled back just enough for the sky to reach down and say hello. You can see the glider club buildings tucked in, people moving around with that unhurried rhythm of folks who spend a lot of time looking upward. It gives the top of the hill this strange mixture of peaceful and alive.
After soaking that in, we dropped down into the woods below the White Horse. And that descent… yeah, it gets rough pretty quickly. Beautiful, but the kind where you’re suddenly watching your footing more than the scenery. The soil turns slick, the rocks shift a little under you, and the whole thing becomes muddy enough that I was glad I wasn’t wearing anything flimsy. Adequate footwear is definitely advised. Honestly, it’s part of the fun, but only if you’re prepared.
All in all, a great loop. Sky above, forest below, and that sense of stumbling between two completely different moods in just a few minutes. I’d go again in a heartbeat.
