From the moment I stepped onto this historic street, I was enchanted by the charming blend of tradition and modernity that defines Insadong. The specialty shops here are truly one-of-a-kind, featuring authentic Korean goods you simply cannot find elsewhere. The alleyways are lined with countless shops and galleries showcasing exquisite traditional crafts, such as delicate pottery, beautifully crafted hanji (traditional Korean paper), and intricate folk art. The street also features numerous art galleries and calligraphy shops, perfect for those interested in Korea’s artistic expressions. Food lovers will delight in the numerous cafes and street food stalls offering traditional delicacies such as tteok (rice cakes), hotteok (sweet pancakes), and herbal teas.
What I appreciated most about Insadong was its ability to preserve and showcase Korea’s cultural identity amidst the modern cityscape.
