A beautiful place to be in the woods

点评：We've driven past, and heard people talk about Cook Forest for so many years, but only recently visited. We are so sorry we didn't go sooner. It's a fabulous hunk of woods for hiking or some quiet time.
We were surprised by the size of the park. Much bigger and with more trails than we expected. We stayed in park cabins, which are pretty rustic: no plumbing, hardwood chairs and tables, camp-style beds, plastic curtains. But the mattresses were quite comfortable, we had a stove and fridge, and the bathroom facilities are close and in great condition.
We stayed in the cabins closest to the Clarion River. It's not the wide and shallow enough to wade the whole across. It's perfect for taking a dip, fishing or going for a paddle in your boat or one of the rented kayaks, tubes or canoes.
While not an official dark-sky location, there's very little ambient light, giving you some great star gazing. Bring you binoculars and take a look at the Milky Way and you will be astonished by the number of starts.
We are already planning a return trip to explore more the woods and visit some of the shops that we didn't have time for on our first visit.
