Museum of history, ethnography ....and an aquarium - June 2024

点评：The Museum of the Region of the Iron Gates in the Drobeta-Turnu Severin, is a very interesting museum that is focusing on this area of the country and of the Danube.
Museum is collocated with the Drobeta Roman Castrum ruins - so when you are visiting you can visit both of these. ( now collocated means - in a building nearby inside the same compound).
The museum, as mentioned before, it is very interesting - a mix of history - ranging from the pre-historic times and closing with the communist era and 1989 with the Romanian revolution. Than comes the "natural sciences" section, with the geology section (inside the museum there is a recreation of the Ponicova cave , a cave in the region of the Iron Gates, on the Danube's shore), wildlife and the aquarium ( nicely maintained and having all 4 sturgeon species that are swimming in the waters of the Danube swimming in the takes of the aquarium).
Continuing the history section you shall find the ethnography section with folk art and architecture on display.
A very nice mix, lovely exhibitions, personally I liked it very much - I was spending almost 2 hours to go through it, and it is not a very big museum, so I do recommend you a visit whenever you are in the area, from my perspective it is worth it.
