点评:I was disappointed with the theatre experience. The Sound of Music itself was very good — excellent performances and lovely music. Unfortunately, the atmosphere around us was extremely distracting.
In front of us was a family with four young children and their grandparents. The kids were clearly too young to sit through a 3-hour performance and were talking, restless, and moving around throughout the show. The adults did not correct the behaviour, and although one of them apologized at the start of intermission, it had already taken away from what should have been a true theatre experience.
I don’t blame the children at all — they were simply too young — but I do feel there should be some type of age guideline. Tickets are not inexpensive, and I have no issue paying for a proper theatre experience when the audience respects the performance.
At the end of the show, I was also surprised by the lengthy request for donations. While I fully support the arts and appreciate how hard the actors work, having the children come out and ask in such a prolonged way felt awkward and in poor taste. I would have preferred to receive an email or a link and would have been more willing to contribute that way.
Overall, the show itself was wonderful, but the environment made it difficult to enjoy. I think the theatre could do better to ensure that everyone gets the experience they paid for.
