点评:My husband and I went to Luna Park for NYE 2024 and I promised myself I would leave some information online as I was struggling to find much when I was researching and booking.
1. Book early - I (stupidly) waited a few days after the first tickets were released and got the second wave, missing out on $100 between the two tickets. We went for the standard ticket which is entry and unlimited rides.
2. Getting there - we travelled from a hotel in Tempe and public transport was busy but not awful. We arrived to Milson’s point station 5.50pm (it closed at 6pm and we would have needed to walk from North Sydney otherwise), then got a table in an Italian by the station before walking down to Luna Park.
3. Getting in - There was a bit a queue to get in, but we made it by 7.15pm. A simple bag and ticket check. The ticket said to bring ID with you, and for tourists that meant passports. Frustratingly they didn’t actually check passports and we would have rather left them at home. Still, probably worth having them just in case…
4. Unlimited rides - we love rides so went straight on the Ferris Wheel (incredible views!), Coney Island (really fun slides) and the Big Dipper (solid coaster). The queues were definitely getting longer as the evening progressed, our first queue was 30 mins and our last was probably over 1 hour.
5. Fireworks - when we arrived people were already packed into the boardwalk, with capacity controlled by staff. It looked like if you left to pee/get drinks you’d have queue again and may not rejoin your friends. We decided we didn’t fancy that so at 11.40pm we just joined the crowd partially behind the ferris wheel. It meant we didn’t spend hours waiting, and within 5 mins we were out of the crowd and straight on the Hair Raiser ride, meanwhile the boardwalk crowd were queuing to get out - no regrets for our decision! At 9pm we were in a queue for a ride so didn’t get a good view, which was fine by us.
6. Food and drink - drinks were mostly cans (beers and spirits) for $12-16, queues were never too bad and it was max 3 drinks per person when ordering. We ate dinner before but the food looked like burgers and chips. We snacked on fresh popcorn for $6 and pretzels for $5 which were both great. There were free drinking water stations.
7. Music - a host of DJs played music on a stage for the whole night, with people dancing the whole time. Really great vibe.
8. Staff - worthy of its own point, the staff were noticeably all very happy. I’d have expected grumpy teenagers, but honestly every single staff member seemed genuinely happy to be there!
9. Getting home - it closed at 2am, we left at 1.30am and this is when we really encountered the crowds! It was very busy queuing to get into Milson’s Point station, carefully controlled by staff, but once we were in it wasn’t too bad. There were frequent trains and we were pleasantly surprised by how well the public transport ran, despite the huge number of people. There was a huge amount of information and guidance about getting home online and around Sydney.
Overall review - awesome vibes, world-class fireworks, and fun rides. A brilliant night, good value for money and much better than I’d expected.
