点评:Truly one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Rwanda is clean, safe and the park staff are well trained and take the rules seriously to protect the gorillas. They have small groups that go to different gorilla families and once you come upon the family you are restricted to 60 minute visit. I appreciate that they truly keep the tourists in line and respectful of the environment and the wildlife.
We did two treks. If you can afford it, I recommend. The first days trek was considered‘medium’ difficulty. It was 12kms out and back and some sections were steep and very rocky. Not difficult though. The altitude is definitely a factor to keep in mind. Our second days trek was also medium difficulty and the out and back was only 5kms. Totally different experiences on each day.
The park guides provide you with a walking stick and the option to hire a porter (only $10 USD) which I recommend because it helps support the local economy and they are very helpful navigating through the uneven canopy terrain and steep rocky slopes.
Our first day we came upon a large family with lots of playful juveniles. One even buggy punched my husband and grabbed my arm. Not in an aggressive way at all, just playful. They were playing and chest pumping the whole time and it was so incredible to be so close.
The second day we came upon a family with lots of babies and it was a much more relaxed and peaceful experience watching them explore and nurse.
Your hotel/guide will also provide you with a lunch/snack and gaiters to wear.
I’ve done safaris before but this, this was something special. 10/10.
Another thing to note is that when you get to the entrance of the park, it is dense jungle and the trackers and guides machete a path through the vines.
Lastly, once you enter the park you will need to wear a mask. Gorillas are susceptible to illness this helps to prevent us from spreading anything to them.
