点评:Visiting this monastery in the Arcadian mountains requires a 30 minute drive from Leonidis. The drive 16km on this narrow country road to Sparta is not for the faint of heart, but it offers beautiful views of the river gorge, forests, and cliffs.
The monastery itself is in a spectacular location, virtually glued to the cliffs. Entrance is free. There is a small orthodox church, and even a restroom is provided. All inscriptions, which are few, are in Greek, so the casual visitor does not learn a lot from visiting this site. I would have gladly paid a 10 Euro entrance fee for a tour and/or a booklet. It is said that the last living nun, who died a few years ago, gave tours including parts of the complex that are now inaccessible (like caves in the mountain). A male orthodox priest was around, keeping an eye on the church visitors.
Parts of the premises would benefit from renovation. In my opinion, upkeep and/or restoration of this monastery could be supported by the sale of coffee and soft drinks. Instead, we found food stands offering fruit and honey outside the premises.
