Fascinating…. And a little creepy

点评：Upon arrival, we walked around the buildings, enjoying the architecture of the day. It’s a neat building complex. After looking inside the round building, we went in the church. Not being Catholic, I was fascinated by the alcoves filled with icons lit by candles, and the old artwork depicting various events. And then… there he was. Or maybe I should say, there his bones were. The martyr, Hippolytus, in a glass case, his bones stacked adjacent to his skull, with a red velvet garment draped over the top. Candles burning, icons galore, railing to bar the touching of the glass. I can’t help but think he’d rather be buried in a nice cemetery than having his skeletal framework placed on display, distracting people from the whole reason he martyred himself. But it was thought provoking. It’s a fascinating church, and worth the visit.
