Tricky organization for a hike, but amazing experience
Chingaza National Park的点评
点评:Used as we are to hiking on our own, we were a bit wary of the double pay-wall at Chingaza, as you have to pay for your entry to the park and hire a guide to accompany you on the way.
Iván, the knowledgeable ornithologist who guided us (from the provider Colombia Oculta), quickly put those concerns at rest. He was affable and visibly in love with the park. He'd spent years tracking eagles in there, spoke fondly and at depth of all life forms in the park, and overall made our first foray into the páramo delightful and insightful.
The park itself was in great shape, densely packed with unique vegetation, almost untouched, and our conversations with the staff persuaded us that our money and their efforts are directed to the preservation of the area (much of which is not to be disturbed by visitors) and assuaging the concerns of landowners bordering the park.
Finally, a few notes for those who want to enter the park from the northern entrance, from where you can start the Laguna de Siecha parcours: there is ambiguous information about the sort of vehicle you need to get there, but even after a recent intervention in part of the road, we would only recommend going there in a 4x4. We are very happy that we took the transport service offered by the company that organized the tour.
