点评:This is a first-class museum, filled with treasures that are well labeled in both Greek and English. We enjoyed it so much we toured it twice. Exhibits on the first floor showcase mining tools and clothing, and historic photos of mines and mine workers. The second floor has an amazing collection of the many minerals mined on the island, with fascinating explanations of their history and current uses. A video shows the procedures for mining and processing the minerals. Don’t miss the short film in the basement, which features interviews with retired mine workers who tell about the hardships, and camaraderie, of their years in the mines. The mines provided livelihoods to countless men, women and children on this inhospitable island before tourism arrived. The museum has a small shop with gems and books for sale. Tickets are €7, €4 for seniors, a true bargain.
