A Fantastic Final Stop on Our Kentucky Trip

点评：I bought two tickets in advance for the Path to Flavor Tour at Woodford Reserve Distillery. I booked a little more than three weeks early. Regular tickets are $35 each. I used a Veterans discount for 50% off, which made my ticket $17.50. My wife used a Designated Driver ticket for $28.
We drove an hour from Louisville and arrived 30 minutes before our tour time. After we checked in, we walked across the street from the visitor center to the Woodford Reserve Cocktail Bar and Lounge. I had a glass of the Double Oaked Old Fashioned for $18. An artist was finishing a mural inside the lounge while we enjoyed our drinks.
We headed back to the visitor center and caught a shuttle bus. Our 70-minute tour departed at 2:00 PM. The tour was both indoors and outdoors. We smelled the sweet mash in huge wooden vats, then walked into the distillation room to see the six copper pot stills. After that, we went to the barrel warehouse. There, temperature and steam help age the barrels until the whiskey is ready as it reaches maturity.
Our tour ended in the gift shop tasting room. I tasted five offerings:
1. Bourbon Whiskey
2. Malt Whiskey
3. Rye Whiskey
4. Wheat Whiskey
5. Double Oaked
They also gave us a bourbon ball sweet treat to sample with each whiskey. The Double Oaked was the clear winner for me, and the Rye came in second. I liked the Double Oaked so much that I bought two bottles of it to take home. This was our last stop in Kentucky. It was a fitting way to end our trip to "The Bluegrass State."
