点评:This site is at least, if not more, historically significant than Stone Henge. One of the reasons we chose Cyprus Was to visit these incredibly rare examples of Neolithic seafarer civilisations, which rewrite our understanding of human history. So we rented a car to drive 1.5hrs from Paphos, only to find the site completely abandoned.
We called the numbers on the website, who gave us another direct number which had no answer after two extensive attempts. We waited half an hour and eventually had to leave as it was unbearably hot and we were burning through fuel just keeping the air con on with no expected time anyone would return.
Let me ask you this… would you expect to turn up to Stone Henge to find it locked with no one on the door, no sign indicating why it was closed during opening hours, and no answer on the phone?
It’s a joke that a site like this is left in such irresponsible hands. All I can say, is that if you’re going to visit, call ahead, if you can get an answer.
Fortunately Choirokoitia was open as expected, and that was a fantastic experience with helpful and friendly staff. We spent 2.5hrs taking it all in. So the trip wasn’t entirely wasted.
