点评:Firstly, let’s get some logistics out the way. This museum is set on a working, military base. As you enter the base there is a small car park on the right hand side. Park up there and then walk up to the check point. Here all adults must show some sort of photo ID and sign in their party. Then, you wait, until someone from the museum arrives and escorts you to the museum. This walk takes around 3-4 mins. There are customer toilets and a very small gift shop, but no cafe. This may seem like a bit of a faff. But trust me, it’s worth it.
On arrival we were greeted by some friendly staff and offered some kiddies trail for our 7yo. We got one about nurses and one general one about the whole museum. These entertained her for the whole museum and was just the right level of challenging for her. She also learnt a lot doing it.
The museum runs in chronological order being with the civil war and ending in the present day. There’s some fascinating exhibits including arrow head extractors and a piece of skin with a deserters mark inked into it. Each section had a quick history whatever war was happening and then some medical equipment and some other items from that time period. Most fascinating for me, was teeth from Himmler.
While, this all sounds a little macabre, it is far from it. Every war is treated with dignity and respect and the nurses and doctors rightly honoured and the museum acknowledges their efforts. A section about VC and
Dickin medal winners was lovely to see.
We spent close to two hours in here and read the info in every exhibit case. We were fascinated by every bit. Once you’re done, ding the little bell and you will be escorted back to the checkpoint.
