点评:After 47 years of living in North Carolina and traveling repeatedly to Blowing Rock, I finally decided to visit this "tourist attraction" just outside of town. I had always reasoned that $10 was kind of a ridiculous amount to pay for some good mountain overlooks, many of which are just as good--and free--from the Blue Ridge Parkway. But I was wrong to stay away! This year on our annual mountain-based weekend, I asked my whole family (14 in all) to accompany me to "the Rock." When we turned into the parking lot, we were impressed with how carefully everything was maintained. When we walked into the entrance/ticket building, we were greeted by a very friendly woman who was clearly eager for all of us to enjoy the experience her establishment was offering. Beyond the building came a very short walk (just what I as an 80-year-old wanted) to three overlooks. It was a sunny, warm, joyfully windy day, but I suspect it would have been lovely in any weather. We took family pictures with the help of strangers, and we ate fine ice cream in the little shop near the highest overlook. We reveled in the wind and the beauty all around us. Worth every penny and more.
