Learn French in the most Beautiful Spot on the Cote d'Azur

点评：Most recent one month course was October 2024, but also attended for February 2024. If you want to learn or improve your French in a beautiful village in the Cote d'Azur with fantastic teachers, this immersion program can't be beat. The first time I stayed in Institut-provided housing just next to the school which was super convenient, clean, with simple cooking facilities. While small, it suited well. There are different levels of accommodation possible that are larger at different prices. The second time I rented a house independently with friends which had big kitchen and a pool, which also was great in the warmer weather for more extensive cooking and entertaining.
The school is run by Frederic Latty who is very involved with the students and the classes every day. I was an Intermediate the first time, and then an Advanced student the 2nd time -- so the program works! Each student is tested and then placed with others at the same level. Classes are quite small and range from 2- 4 weeks (my classes began with about 8-10 students and by 2nd half were 6 so much individual attention). I highly recommend this immersion program for anyone who wants to learn to speak better or to even start learning French (I met many beginners who loved the program). The oral method and the immersion (no English allowed) is the best way to become a better French speaker. The program includes several social events such as a welcome party the first week and some excursions/tours of surrounding area.
A full, hot breakfast is provided daily as well as a full-course French meal at lunch (fantastic chef and patissiere husband and wife team -- Anthony and Sarah -- food is great). Each day during lunch, students sit and converse in French together and with one of the professors -- rotating around to get different experiences. Nice way to meet all those in the Course, not just those in your own class.
The location of the Institut in Villefranche-sur-Mer is gorgeous in a lovely, old villa with a very pretty and relaxing garden -- with beautiful views of the bay and access to one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. The old town of Villefranche is charming, and Nice is just a few minutes away offering alot of cultural opportunity, great restaurants and more night life. Easy acess everywhere by train. Great walks to Cap Ferrat and other neighboring towns like Beaulieu-sur-Mer. In the surrounding area of the Cote d'Azur you can visit Antibes, Cannes, St. Tropez, Menton, and Monaco easily -- by train or car, which is great for weekends. The lovely and old villages that are inland, such as Eze and St. Paul de Vence are must-sees. Just driving along the Corniche (definitely rewatch the movie To Catch a Thief again!) gives brilliant views of the entire coastline.
All of those who direct and support the school daily are lovely and kind -- helping with anything that arises during your stay. The final ceremony to receive your Certificate is fun but also recognition of all the hard work students and teachers put into the program. The teachers are all excellent and super-experienced. I will certainly go back again!
