点评:I can’t say I liked the decorative style within a domestic context that the Bloomsbury Group produced in their farmhouse. Their artistic endeavours did little for me and at times seemed rushed, often drab and not particularly skilful. The gardens on the other hand were delightful and achieved some beautiful effects. In this area I felt they excelled.
The house has many rooms, and I liked the library but found the others cluttered. The area I liked the most and which had character for me was the studio, with its high ceiling and good light. The pond outside provided a most restful place to sit. At the time we visited the house and restaurant at Charleston, there was an overpowering and pervasive smell of cattle manure. There were also a lot of wasps. The toilet facility bordered on ridiculous with a large room with two small cubicles bundled into one corner. There were two exhibitions one of which was of interest the other a collection of images meaningless beyond description, barely worth a look in the door. I would visit the gardens again but not the house or the exhibitions.
