点评:I am a huge koala fan and had read about the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie before travelling to Australia from the UK. I was disappointed to find the hospital temporarily closed for redevelopment during my travels. However having read about their temporary new home at the Wild Breeding Centre in nearby Guulabaa we decided to take a look. So glad we did! Although the facility is small there are lots of materials on offer to explain the history and progress of the conservation work. There are a small number of koalas that cannot be returned to the wild so they are housed and cared for sympathetically for visitors to observe. The koalas in the breeding programme however are kept in the wild to ensure they are able to nurture their young to live in the wild. We were able to spot some of these in the adjacent eucalyptus forest. It was $12.50 per adult and we spent a good hour there. This might seem expensive to some but for us it was worth every penny to support such excellent work.
