Brilliant morning out!
Workhouse Museum & Garden的点评
点评：We (me, my wife and our 6 year old) visited today, and were hugely impressed. There is so much to see, masses of well-presented information and lots and lots to keep younger visitors interested. The staff were very welcoming, helpful friendly. Our little boy joined in with a baking activity which was being held in the workhouse kitchen, which he loved, and made a lovely gingerbread man which he brought away with him. The audio trail (you scan a QR code in some of the rooms, and are led through the history of the buildings by listening to the story of one of the keepers) was EXCELLENT, and a really simple but effective way of introducing the ideas about how the poor were treated in the past. I’ve seen this museum described as “the tramp museum”, but if you’re interested in history, and especially the ins-and-outs of Victorian society and their attitudes towards social issues, the museum is perfect. It presents the heart-wrenching stories of the poor people “incarcerated” here in a touching and very emotional way. A fantastic example of a brilliant local museum.
