点评:My wife and I met at Chautauqua Institution in 1968 and had not been back since so this visit was a surprise. We found that you now park outside of the grounds and take a mobility bus into the center if you have your pass or ticket (tickets can run up to $47 a day during activities; they are free until 5 PM on Sundays which is when we went). Parking is free on Sunday until 5 PM after which it is $5 an hour.
Once on the grounds there are people movers and shuttle busses to take visitors down to the center of the grounds where they can find Bestor Plaza with its Refrectory snack bar, bookstores and tea rooms, and the center of the institution, the Amphitheater. The day we were there they had a 3 PM kids' show with a singer and band who taught Spanish words to the kids as they had them dance and act out the items on the screen behind the group.
Normally they have speakers and other events such as concerts here but those tend to be somewhat politically oriented speakers. Two years ago the speaker there was Salman Rushdie who was attacked by a fanatic while speaking, the first time in the history of Chautauqua that has ever happened. Considering the institution was founded in 1874 that is quite a record.
