点评:I drove from the Atlanta area to see this mansion built by the Callaway family in 1832. I feel sure it was once beautiful but it looked unloved when I visited yesterday. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the house is imposing from the outside. We were not allowed to take photos inside. Not sure why that is, but I always respect that rule. There are a lot of family memorabilia and possessions which is really interesting.
My problem was with things like the drapes which don't appear to have been cleaned or laundered since the last owners moved out. The rugs are filthy. If you plan to let people explore every room, then be prepared to do the extra upkeep. There's a lot of original wallpaper that, of course, can't be touched. But why not freshen up the painted areas? There are a lot of windows which make most of the rooms feel sunny and cheerful. But all the windows need a good cleaning. There is some beautiful antique furniture as well as glassware and china. The period kitchen was interesting.
All in all, it's a beautiful old mansion that was the home of a wealthy family through several generations. But it could use a little TLC because it looks just a little dingy and unloved.
