点评:Four of us had supper at the White Hart on a Thursday evening towards the end of January in order (a)to support the new management and (b) to see what it was like. The visit did not get off to a good start as, on arrival, we were ignored by the barman for several minutes while he fiddled with his phone. A waitress eventually came to our rescue and service thereafter was very good. The same could not, sadly, be said for the food, which failed to live up to the promise of what is an appealing menu. The bruschetta, which three of us had as a starter, consisted mainly of cherry tomatoes, cut in half and overwhelmed by pesto. Offering the pasta dishes in two portion sizes is an excellent idea and three of us went for the starter size, two with the beef ragu pappardelle and the third with the gnocchi. The ragu was disappointingly ordinary, the gnocchi got the thumbs up for flavour, but all three would have been much better had they not been on the tepid side of lukewarm. However, the venison steak was pronounced excellent, cooked on the rare side of medium, and it did actually taste of venison rather than, as is so often the case, of beef. However, having to pay extra for vegetables is irritating and the £6 charged for a portion of over-cooked roast potatoes was over the top. The wine list is short, well-chosen, but expensive. But we enjoyed the Portuguese red and the Italian pecorino. The bill for the four of us, including drinks and a tip was £150.00
