A great, Great Walk

点评：I had little expectation of this walk, perhaps as it’s not Alpine, perhaps because of the long walk down the beach to finish. All I can say is it was fantastic, the change of bushline, including the large Podocarps the huge tussock plateau, Nikau forrest, the ancient Northern Rata and of course the West Coast beach, rivers and native birds were all amazing. A real bonus was seeing a Takahe in the wild. The huts were great, the weather good. The gradient of the walk itself is not challenging just the length of the walking days (time on feet) with the longest being 24.2km’s (that said an extra night would have broken the long day) All in all a very satisfying walk. An additional bonus was the flight back from Karamea to Nelson over the impressive Kahurangi National park.
