Beautiful park, but avoid campsites 159-162 due to highway noise

点评：This review is not meant to slam Rockwood Conservation Area. It's a beautiful place and I'm a big fan of the Grand River Conservation Authority in general.
It's important, though, to have a record of this for future travellers.
We were looking forward to an extended long weekend stay at Rockwood. We lasted one night. Our campsite at the top of the Cedar Valley loop was so close to the intersection of Highway 7 and 4th (Guelph) Line that quiet enjoyment of the site was impossible. Park staff were hopeful that the highway noise would die down by 'quiet time', but that wasn't the case -- we were treated to heavy truck traffic and revving cars and motorcycles well into the wee hours of the morning. The stop light at the intersection of the two highways was clearly visible from our site. We seriously considered booking a hotel for the night and coming back to pack in the morning. In retrospect, we probably should have.
This seems to be a recurring complaint -- I've seen reviews going back to 2014 that mention the highway noise. The Grand River Conservation Authority kindly refunded our stay after we made a formal complaint. We've camped at several GRCA parks, and we will again. But we probably won't go back to Rockwood, even though the beach and the scenery along the Eramosa River were gorgeous. Ironic that Cedar Valley is also one of the park's two radio-free areas -- sure glad nobody was playing their radio, not that we'd have heard it over the traffic noise.
Campsites I would suggest you NOT book: 159-162 -- GRCA would do well to take these out of circulation and plant trees on them to help block the traffic sounds.
