A lovely and informative visit, especially if you’re already at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre next door. The information boards are excellent, offering plenty of background about the bears and the centre’s work.
There are usually plenty of sun bears to spot, often lounging, climbing, or foraging in their spacious enclosures. Feeding times seem a bit random, but that’s part of the natural, less “staged” experience.
It’s a little pricier than the orangutan centre, but this sanctuary is privately run, and your entry fee goes directly back into conservation and care — so it feels worthwhile. Expect to spend around an hour exploring.
There aren’t any scheduled talks, but the volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable, and travelling with a guide adds even more insight into these fascinating little bears.
