点评:Spent the day celebrating my beautiful son’s 14th birthday, ticking off some very niche bucket-list items… because apparently I’m now raising a plane spotter.
We stayed at the Premier Inn Heathrow Terminal 4 purely so we could watch planes landing at Heathrow Airport. And honestly? Elite decision. The room had a perfect runway view, with planes touching down every five minutes like Heathrow was running a conveyor belt. We saw loads of Airbus A380s, which Wes explained is basically the Beyoncé of planes. It’s the biggest passenger aircraft in the world, a double-decker giant that looks like it shouldn’t be allowed to fly — and that’s exactly why he loves it. The size, the engineering, the ridiculousness of it all. Meanwhile I stood there nodding enthusiastically while I quietly battled my envy about all the glamorous places they’d just flown in from.
Once the sun came up, we even spotted Concorde Alpha Bravo — our second Concorde sighting (Alpha Foxtrot in Bristol was the first, obviously…).
After checkout, we headed to Brooklands Museum to meet Delta Golf — Concorde number three —because we are apparently collecting them now. The museum is dedicated to motorsport, aircraft and buses. We barely scratched the surface, but it was brilliant, run by volunteers so passionate they could probably identify a plane from its shadow at 300 feet. Wes even got to sit in a Harrier jet and chat to a former pilot, which officially tipped this from “nice birthday trip” into “core memory unlocked.”
They had to kick us out of the museum at closing . So, then it was off to Myrtle Avenue, where planes come in so low over your head that I spent the entire time instinctively ducking like one might clip my hair. The planes were MASSIVE, the noise was unreal, and I’m fairly sure I now know what it feels like to be runway-adjacent wildlife. Wes, of course, was in absolute heaven.
Send help. I think I’ve caught the plane-spotter bug… and I fear there’s no cure 🛩️😅
